How to add MCP servers to Codex
In the Codex CLI, add an MCP server with codex mcp add <name> -- <command>, or add a [mcp_servers.<name>] block to ~/.codex/config.toml. The IDE extension reads the same file.
Add a server from the terminal
codex mcp add my-server -- npx -y some-mcp-packageOr edit the config file
Codex keeps its settings in ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.my-server]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "some-mcp-package"]Run codex mcp list to check it is registered.
