About qmd
QMD is a local search engine for markdown content such as notes, knowledge bases and documentation. It is packaged as an agent skill that works through the qmd CLI or an MCP server. The skill supports keyword (lex, BM25), vector (vec) and hypothetical document (hyde) query types, which can be combined in one request. An intent field can steer ambiguous queries, and results can be filtered by collection.
The assistant can run queries, retrieve documents by path or docid, pull several files by glob, and check collection status. The source also documents a CLI and a local HTTP API on port 8181. It is aimed at people who want an AI assistant to search their own notes and docs. The skill is MIT licensed and its metadata lists version 2.0.0.

- The -term exclusion syntax only works in lex queries, not vec or hyde.
- The first query in a search gets 2x weight in fusion, so put the best guess first.

What search types does QMD support?
It supports lex for keyword BM25 matching, vec for natural language vector search, and hyde for searching with a hypothetical answer. Lex and vec can be combined for better recall.
Does QMD search only my local files?
